NK Glosstek glossmeters are designed for gloss control in paints, coatings, plastics, wood, paper and any finished surface. Manufactured by Rhopoint Instruments (UK) under the NK by NEURTEK brand, they offer maximum accuracy and repeatability, traceable to international standards.

The range comprises two models: the NK Glosstek 60 (single angle, ideal for routine monitoring) and the NK Glosstek Trio (20/60/85° triangle for any gloss level). The NK IQtek model adds measurement of VELO – HAZE reflectance, DOI and reflectance, which are key for high-gloss applications.

Gloss measures the specular reflection of light on a surface, whilst colour analyses chromatic perception. Two samples can be exactly the same colour yet have completely different gloss levels.

It is commonly used to measure gloss on paints, varnishes, plastics, metallic surfaces, lacquered wood, industrial coatings, inks and decorative materials.

Factors such as poor application, insufficient curing, surface contamination, degradation due to UV radiation, moisture or mechanical wear can significantly reduce the gloss of a surface.

Each angle is optimised for different levels of gloss. Typically, 60° is used as a general reference, 20° for high-gloss surfaces and 85° for matt or low-gloss finishes.
