Universal Micrometric Applicator

Universal Micrometric Applicator

Manual Micrometric Applicator

With four clearances per applicator

The preparation of samples with controlled and reproducible film thicknesses is essential in laboratory tests.

For numerous products such as paints, inks, varnishes, adhesives and cosmetics, the reliability of laboratory tests depends directly on the quality and consistency of the applied samples.

Repeatability and reproducibility of physical parameters (drying time, elasticity, abrasion resistance, etc.) and optical parameters (gloss, colour, hue) can only be achieved from uniform, comparable films with rigorously controlled thicknesses.

Application

Wet film applicator equipped with two integrated micrometers, allowing the blade position to be adjusted in 10 µm increments, from 0 to 6 mm. Made entirely of stainless steel.

Features

Can also be used with the Aplitek series of automatic film applicators.

FAQS

A doctor blade type applicator uses a blade or applicator edge to spread the product onto the substrate at a controlled gap.

This gap determines the wet film thickness applied. In the case of a micrometric applicator, the height can be adjusted using precision screws.

If the two ends of the applicator are not set to the same value, the film may be thicker on one side than the other.

This affects the uniformity of the sample and may alter subsequent results relating to gloss, colour, drying, adhesion, chemical resistance or abrasion tests.

The Baker applicator usually offers pre-set thicknesses on each side of the instrument. In contrast, the micrometric applicator allows the thickness to be adjusted continuously within its working range.

Therefore, the Baker applicator is practical for quick applications involving standard thicknesses, whilst the micrometric applicator is more suitable when greater flexibility of adjustment is required.
