Resistivity Meter

Digital Resistek

Measures the resistivity of paints and solvents to optimise electrostatic painting

The Digital Resistivity Meter Resistek NK-RE4500 is NK by Neurtek’s reference instrument for accurately measuring the electrical resistivity of paints, varnishes and solvents used in electrostatic painting processes. Inadequate resistivity of the coating directly compromises process efficiency: if too low, short circuits occur; if too high, the paint is not properly charged and application performance drops.

Its immersion probe with liquid overflow protection, auto-ranging function and fast 10-second result make it an essential tool for quality control in electrostatic painting lines, compatible with the main systems and manufacturers in the sector (Sames, Ransburg, Volstatic, Hursant, NESAG, Straton).

Application

  • Electrostatic painting (liquid and powder): Verification that the resistivity of the coating or solvent is within the optimum range for correct electrostatic charging of particles.
  • Formulation adjustment: Control of resistivity during the development of new paints or the dilution of existing coatings.
  • In-line production control: Quick check before each batch or when changing colour/material in industrial painting lines.
  • Application problem diagnosis: Identification of out-of-range resistivity as the cause of defects (cratering, poor coverage, loss of transfer efficiency).
  • Compatibility with OEM systems: verification of values conforming to the specifications of electrostatic equipment manufacturers (Sames, Ransburg, Volstatic, Hursant, NESAG, Straton).

FAQS

They are inversely proportional quantities. When conductivity increases, resistivity decreases, and vice versa. For this reason, both are used to assess the electrical behaviour of a sample.

Yes. Small variations in contamination, moisture, salt concentration or chemical composition can significantly alter the resistivity without any visible changes to the sample.

Temperature can significantly alter the resistivity of many liquids and materials. For this reason, measurements are usually carried out under controlled conditions or by applying temperature corrections.

It may be an indication of differences in formulation, contamination, moisture content, salt concentration or changes in the raw materials used during manufacture.

Because even small amounts of ionic contaminants can significantly alter the electrical behaviour of a sample. An increase in impurities is usually reflected in a decrease in the measured resistivity.
